Chuka University Faculty Of Agriculture Shines At The 4th National Agriculture Summit

On October 1st and 2nd, 2024, Chuka University’s Faculty of Agriculture participated in the 4th National Agriculture Summit held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Nairobi. Themed “Embracing Sustainability, Innovations, Research, and Competitiveness in Agriculture,” the event brought together leaders, researchers, and students to explore cutting-edge agricultural innovations and build partnerships for the future of agribusiness.

Key discussions at the summit focused on attracting youth to agribusiness, sustainable agriculture, ensuring food security, and fostering collaboration between academia, research, and industry. Chuka University stood out for its commitment to innovation, with faculty and students showcasing various projects that addressed real-world agricultural challenges.

The university’s exhibition featured:

  1. Jamun Wine: An innovative product that adds value to the underutilized jamun fruit, creating economic opportunities while promoting agricultural diversification.
  2. Banana Wine: A creative solution to post-harvest losses by transforming overripe bananas into wine, supporting small-scale farmers, and reducing food waste.
  3. Oyster Nut Gluten-Free Cookies: A healthy snack derived from locally grown oyster nuts, catering to the demand for gluten-free products while supporting local agriculture.

The summit provided valuable industry exposure for students and reinforced Chuka University’s role in advancing agricultural innovation, sustainability, and research-driven solutions.
