INTRODUCTION

The department of Animal Sciences is committed to provision of product and services in a responsive  accountable and professional manner to a high standard. The department contributes to the improvement of food security and livelihood in the community through generation, and sharing of livestock production knowledge. The quality services are attained through good quality education, short training, research and outreach services. Further, the department has highly qualified staff, well equipped laboratory and utilizes the university’s farms to achieve its targets. The departments has been able to collaborate with other organization for consultancy and research services, hence working together with the community.

Mission
To contribute to the improvement of food security and livelihood in the community through generation, preservation and sharing of knowledge for efficient, humane and environmental friendly livestock production by producing graduates with skills and competence. To initiating collaborative research and outreach activities with various stakeholders.
Departmental Objectives
1. Provision of quality higher education and training of Animal Sciences courses of Chuka University.
2. To conduct research and share the findings with stakeholders.
3. To continuously develop teaching programs that can fit today’s market.
4. To establish mutually beneficial partnerships to provide opportunities for sustainable study, research and outreach activities.
