INTRODUCTION

The department endeavors to be at the forefront of agro-industrial development of the nation through training of intellectually and practically competent graduates in food science and technology to cater for national and regional needs. We are proactive in engaging with the relevant public and private sector players so as to create
sustainable environment for industrial growth through value addition of agricultural products in Kenya. In the
course of training, our graduates acquire practical competence through practical attachment to food

To be a center of excellence in creation and dissemination of knowledge in all aspects of food processing and to be a major catalyst in the agro-industrial development of the nation and local entrepreneurs.
Mission

To generate appropriate and relevant knowledge through research and to disseminate the same through effective teaching, publication and community outreach programmes.
Departmental Objectives
The objectives of the Department of Food Technology are as follows:
1. To offer High-Quality Teaching, Training, and Research for practical competence in food science and technology.
2. To lead in novel food product development especially the utilization of underutilized traditional crops
3. To be a Centre of Excellence in Food Processing and to play a significant role in the agro-industrial development of the nation by focusing on new product development for growth and advancement of the food industry in the country.
4. To develop Industry Partnerships for Practical Exposure of our students to actual commercial food processing enterprises. 

The facility will also offer teaching, training and research opportunities for the community through the formation of strategic partnerships with stakeholders in the food value- addition sub-sector, thus contributing to the Kenya
government’s goals of improving food security and manufacturing as part of the ‘Big four agenda’.
